What is it?

This is a Hi-Res S/PDIF Addon Board / HAT for the NanoPi NEO / NEO2 Series of Embedded SBCs (Allwinner H3/H5) by FriendlyArm. The Board is Designed with high quality components, front panel mount design and has 2 S/PDIF interfaces to choose from - Optical - Toslink (FO Cable not included) and RCA 0.5Vpp (RCA Cable not included)

Why did you make it?

Our Company portfolio (Hardware Group Ltd) includes design of Hi-Res Audio Products. The standard Linux SPDIF driver for H3/H5 does not Allow for higher sampling rates > 48KHz and above , therefore we patched it to allow higher sampling rates up to 768KHz , 24Bits.

What makes it special?

Open Source Software and Open Source Hardware, direct front panel mount design due to the used headers with extra spacers, Sampling rates up to 768kHz 24Bits, which was not possible with the standard linux driver. Due to the fact that it is Open Source Software and Hardware, it will help other people as we share also the Eagle Footprint libraries which will ease them with their custom HAT design for NanoPi NEO / NEO2

Software

We have build a custom Linux Distribution that has a fully functional media rendering via Shairport-Sync (AirPlay) and upmpd-cli (DLNA) , that will allow you to stream Hi-Res Audio to your NanoPi, using any AirPlay / DLNA enabled device on your local network. We can also deliver the above distribution on a 32GB SDCARD
