I decided to order this since I would love to play my GameBoy Games on my TV set for more colors and more sound. The shipping was pretty quick and I installed the chip yesterday. The mod was easy to do and my soldering skill isn't the best, but it works without any issues. Soon, I'll be adding the Game Link Port (haven't purchased yet) so I can trade Pokemon between my GameBoy Advance SP and the Super GameBoy. I made a video of the mod installation: https://youtu.be/HV-uK4S6XQI
I recommend this product to anyone who doesn't want to purchase a Super GameBoy 2 and I'm really happy with the results. The best thing about this is, you can use the Hori SGB controller to increase or decrease the speed (OC or UC).
The board arrived just fine to Canada. It looks well made, and should install nicely. The seller answered any questions I had very quickly. Highly recommended if you don't want to buy a Super Gameboy 2 or just like tinkering.
Edit: I just installed it. It was very easy and worked out perfectly. Thanks again.
This kit is great, its relativity easy to use. The boards are well labeled and the documentation is reasonably clear. This it of course assumes you have experience soldering, can solder some fine pitch pins. The documentation also assumes you have a basic grasp of hobby electronics.
You also need Super GameBoy Clock Mod, which qwertymodo also sells to avoid any desyncing issues.
Note: Not a minus but something to to take notice. The board for the link port socket comes with 2 plastic stand offs. I found the stand offs are too tall when installing them into a Japanese Grey Super Game Boy, I ended up using some plastic nuts and washers to mount the board slightly lower so I can get a good fit. Of course the End User is responsible how they implement the instillation of this kit.
Thanks for the feedback on the standoff height. As you probably guessed, I only tested the installation fit in a USA cartridge shell. I will try to get my hands on a PAL or JPN cart and see about sourcing some mounting hardware to fit those shells (I believe they are both shaped identically).
I recommend this product to anyone that cant find or does not want to import a Super Game Boy 2 from Japan. The install is very simple even if you do not have intermediate soldering skills. Experience the way these games were meant to be played on original hardware!
The installation was very simple if you have the basic soldering skills required. Installation took me no more than 15 mins to finish. I can already feel the difference in how the speed is when playing more reactive games like shoot-em-ups and pinball titles for the Game Boy. Great product, and a must for those who insist on using the Super Game Boy for TV gaming.
