Excellent Board. Makes Pico projects easy to mock-up.
For Raspberry Pi Pico Breakout Board
I’m diving into the Raspberry Pi Pico world a bit later than most, and I have to say, I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with plugin breadboards. The wires can be a tad too loose for solid connections and sometimes, they just pop right out. I was hoping to find a solution with screw terminals so I could easily attach different wires to the pins, allowing me to use the project effortlessly. When I came across this one, I figured, “Why not go for it?” and I’m so glad I did. It has much more capability than I expected, which is exciting. I love knowing that I can grow into it as I expand my skills and take on more complex projects. Taking a more extended look at the product, after having it for a couple of days, it’s amazing to have all the connectivity available. It’s much more than just a breakout board with terminals.
This has also sparked my interest in QWIIC connectors and cables since the board is equipped for them, which would simplify my connections to peripherals.
The male header pins for the actual pico were missing. The creator did offer to mail them, but I have a drawer full of them. The good news is that the female headers were provided along with the Pico board, so I could still get started. All the other headers, connectors, etc, were pre-soldered to the board.. Given the complexity of the product, I’m guessing there isn’t a lot of profit margin here.
One additional thought, it would be super helpful if there were actual instructions included. That said, the product description covers most, if not all, of the features, which makes getting started a breeze. There’s also a link to the creator’s website, although it doesn’t have specifics for this board. I did notice that the back of the board has printed information on the various interfaces and pins, which is a nice touch. Perhaps if enough of us ask nicely, he will develop a write-up on the robot project in one of the images.
So, if anyone is on the fence about trying one of these, it is certainly more capable than just a simple breakout board. The price is right and I feel good supporting small creators/hobbyists.
