Fantastic little keeb. Well worth the price!

For mini PiQWERTY USB wired mechanical thumb keyboard

So I'm a bit of a mechanical keyboard hoarder, and I happened to come across this gem, and just had to have it in the collection. It's fantastic for pairing with a Raspberry Pi for the occasional settings menu in RetroPie, and I've got some plans to cobble together a dedicated Pico8 Pi handheld loosely modeled after the PocketChip (but now with better keys!), for on the go game coding. Doesn't take up any space, and it's got the good microswitches, so "typing" on it isn't half bad. It takes about a week for the keymap to become muscle memory, but after that, it's very easy to blind thumbtype on it. It doesn't have all the usual keys you'd expect to find on a normal keyboard, but that's okay if you're just typing a bunch of text. You don't need modifiers apart from the shift key for most work.

Besides a dedicated handheld keyboard, there's ofcourse a miriad of applications that this little keeb is good for. It's size does lend itself to just chucking it in a backpack, and you'll find a use for it on-the-go ;)

Love the kit

For Bare PCB for 3D Startrek Enterprise

I bought the bare pcb animated kit with preinstalled chip. I really enjoyed building this kit and can stare at the animations for hours. I used the pastebin parts list pgvoorhees posted on the hackaday project page. https://pastebin.com/VPNC49LW Included everything but the pink LEDs. Also note, the bottom_LED_position.png is mirror imaged. So all the + indicators are backwards.

A wonderful opportunity to get introduced to LORA

For Armachat - Meshtastic compatible LORA messenger

The product works out of the box. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about LORA. The messenger consists of two units. A sender. A receiver The sender just sends out packets - "hello #". The number increments. The receiver displays the senders message along with RSSI. A great duo to test out range.

INTERESTING THINGS TO DO WITH THE DUO:
I live in NYC. My plan is to send a friend to the top of the empire state building with the sender. I will be at various locations throughout the city and beyond with the receiver. That would make a nice little experiment. I wish I knew more people interested in LORA around me to help with this test. It certainly would be unique!!

Great product

The product itself is really well made, works well, 100% would recommend. I'd buy two in fact, as to make charging faster and also to have a backup (the product is super compact and portable). These little Disaster Radio units just do the job well. Great design and implementation from a developer who shows great talent.
Each unit works well and they communicate as you would expect.
My aim in now to add some 868MHz antennas and optimize the range, maybe also use a Gateway.

Works surprisingly well - another update 8 June 2020

For 40mV module for body heat powered white LED

Shipped in a simple letter envelope, the 5 mm LED was sticking it's nose out of it on arrival. Fortunately the board did not get lost. Included was a snippet of documentation, but the simplicity of the setup does not require more.

The price seems to be a bit detached, so you either must be a millionaire (I am not) or take out a loan (I did ;-).

Now the good news for all the millionaires and overindepted: This harvester is working surprisingly well. With my forehead on the hot side of the recommended Peltier element and a sufficiently sized aluminium heat sink on the other, the tightly-focused LED is bright enough for reading a book or walking in a completely dark room.

And yes, you need to be a fast reader or fast walker: I am using the specified Peltier and a 42,5x42,5x30 mm3 heat sink taken from an old PC. The Peltier is starting at some 55 mV which makes the LED smile. After about 3 minutes the peltier is down to some 35 mV and the LED is falling asleep. Geting rid of the heat transfered first to the heat sink and then to the ambient at a heat sink to ambient temperatur difference of body temperature minus ambient seems to be challenging without a ventilator.

Maybe taking an massive block of material (aluminium at 897 J per kg per K, more than twice as goot as the heavier copper) or water at a whooping 4'200 J per kg per K) may increase your chance to read at least the preface or find the exit door into bright sunlight.

Update 7 June 2020:

I obtained a die-cast aluminium enclosure (www.gainta.com.tw, type G101-IP67, 50x45x30 mm3, available on ebay) and designed and 3D-printed a forehead-mount. Then I filled the enclosure with water up to 80% of its volume and let it rest in my freezer for some time (water will expand when freezing!). After final assembly I mounted the complete lamp on my forehead with a Velcro and ... oh boy! The LED was shining very bright and ... my forhead felt like in an arctic storm. I haven't performed any operating time evaluation yet, but from the point of view of classical physics it should work until the ice will have melted away and the water and encloure will have come up to above room temperature. So the LED may shine for a long time. Or at least as long as I can stand the arctic storm.

Update 8 June 2020:

I tamed the arctic storm with a thin (0.3 mm) sheet of cardboard between the Peltier and my forehead. After about an hour the ice had melted and the LED was getting dimmer. However there was sufficient light for about another half hour to read a book in complete darkness.

What a fun toy! Well made and works nicely. It came quickly and safely and just add a 2032 battery and it's on. But alas the volume isn't nearly loud enough. Please consider a speaker instead of the buzzer for the next batch.

The order came quickly in bubble wrap envelope. The hooks are not installed, you need a plier or two to DIY the hook on the PCB. The supercapacitor lasts surprisingly long on a single charge. I'm planning to write custom effects, but the preinstalled ones are also neat.

Perfectly does what it should

I have bought this adapter as my son's pokemon go plus device is constantly running out of battery. Due to the fact, that he is running around with a powerbank anyways, I thought that it would be awesome, if the device was powered by usb/the powerbank instead.

Reworked the devices housing a bit, so the adapter could reach out. Bam. Works like a charm.

A cool retro watch with extra features

For Led wristwatch retro QDSP6064 bubble display

- The display, pcb, placement of components are all aesthetic, it's a very well designed overall layout. The modding capability is limited, but not impossible; you can fit it in a protective enclosure and access the front buttons by your own wiring easily for example.

- The watch shipped in a plastic box, unscathed, no complaints about the shipping.

- RTTTL alarm sounds are terrific, especially the track nr 2, it's become a good inside joke with friends. When the battery is low, the sound becomes distorted, freaking love it. I used to like making ringtunes on an old Nokia phone back in the day and would like to see this expanded on the retro watch domain in some way, even if it meant connecting with an ISP programmer or the like

- The menu is a little laborous to navigate and especially on the first try I wasn't sure what is happening with the buttons and which menu item is which due to how a 4 digit 7-segment display can transmit verbal information. The items I wasn't sure of were described in the tindie store page, I think they were desrcibed in order in the features list. A little instruction manual could come a long way though.

- "Telling time" (says the time out loud) feature is low volume, you can't hear it clearly unless you place your ear right next to the watch. Could have been cool but the execution didn't cut it now. The other features like astro calculator weren't in my personal interest, I just wanted the cool shiny digits and alarm sounds.

- Having to set the system time again after a quick battery replacement was mildly irritating, having set the time to the exact second previously. The battery does not last a terribly long time especially if you are a heavy user or fascinated with this new toy, so you will have to replace the battery more often. The alarm time and tune did stay, and I assume other system like astro calculator settings stay as well. Now, is this a real problem, as setting the time only takes one minute or less? Probably not, but it's something that could be improved.

Overall a good product, it's an attraction at parties and gets you all the nerds drooling at it. The price is high for a simple watch but those hp bubble display prices have skyrocketed like bitcoin now. I rate it 4/5.

Product ok, but I got a defected one

I just realized after a few months that I bought the item that it wasn't working properly. I could get a refund even after three months that I bought it, the seller is super kind, available and answers the messages almost instantaneously. The charger could be done slightly better, for example telling you when the charge is finished and maybe recharging the battery in 8 hours instead of 24. The very very small instructions also could be written better, since it's not clear how you should put the batter in the device.

Overall I was satisfied with the communication and refund policy.

Very interesting and helpful product

A couple of weeks ago I damaged a ATmega32 and was curious if it's possible to fix/reset that chip instead of buying a new one. In the internet I found the fuse bit doctor, ordered the board and completed it myself because I already had most of the necessary parts available. After completing it, it only took me a couple of minutes to fix that chip and an other one (ATmega328) as well. The most difficult part for me was to get the serial connection to the PC up and running. But once that was fixed it was absolutely easy to repair the chip.
The latest version of the board is not completely documented in the internet and therefore I had to ask the supplier. But I received the answer almost immediately.
Overall I'm very satisfied!
