DCC AUX Shield is a stackable Arduino Shield that adds a 5V DC/DC converter power supply to bypass the 5V LDO of the Arduino. This allows to use a supply voltage of up to 18V to power the DCC track via motorshield and the Arduino Uno or Mega with one single power connection. The shield also features a hat connector for the IoTT Stick (sold separately), which optionally can be added on top of the board to provide Wifi connection and a Neopixel chain for signals, position indicators, etc.
Furthermore, it is used as power supply for the RedHat shield (sold separately). It works with Arduino UNO or Mega featuring the DCC EX command station software or with any other Arduino sketch.
A typical DCC EX command station requires different voltages for the track power and the Arduino power supply, which is a hassle for the user. By adding the DCC AUX shield the wiring can be simplified. Furthermore, adding Wifi for WiThrottle, Loconet over TCP or MQTT becomes as simple as just adding an IoTT Stick. There is no need for additional boards like a Wifi shield, which has its own difficulties for connecting and configuring.
It is easy to install on an existing DCC EX system and greatly enhances its functionality.
