Important note about the display quality, read before ordering!

These displays have an quality issue: the pixels don't look crisp, but a bit smudged or 'out of focus', especially at the edges. There is no known way to fix this. See the photos (click to enlarge), where I tried to show the issue. On one photo, you can see the difference between a display with and without the 'out of focus' issue. Thin lines and small texts are gray and unreadable. On the other photos, you see some of the OpenEPaperLink built in content types, as they are displayed on the displays. In short, on big texts like the date display it's hardly noticable, but smaller texts become unreadable. The same issue has been seen before on other types of big epaper displays, and is not expected to get worse over time. Make sure you are aware of these limitations before ordering. Sadly, this is the very last batch I could purchage. It's not expected that I can offer these again in the future.

What is it?

These Solum electronic shelf labels are brand new old stock. They contain a nice 4.2 inch three color epaper display, white/black/red, with resolution 400x300 pixels. The tag measures 10.3 x 8.7 x 1.3 cm, with a display area of 8.5 x 6.3 cm. They are preprogrammed with the OpenEPaperLink firmware, so, ready to use if you already own an Access Point.

What can I do with it?

The tags are ready to be used with the OpenEpaperLink system. If you're just starting with OpenEPaperLink, you'll need an Access Point too. You can buy a kit to make an Access Point here, or you can make one yourself.

Optionally, you get two small plastic stands to be able to place the display on a bookshelf or table. As I only have a limited amount of these displays, and I want to make as many people as possible happy to get one or two, the unit price will go up if you order more than two at a time. My apologies for that.

For shipments within the EU, the tags include batteries (only when shipped within the EU). The tags take two CR2450 batteries, they can be found online. When only updating the display a few times per day, the batteries are expected to last a few years.

To save on shipping costs, you can add some other displays to the same order: 2.9" tags, 1.54" tags, or a mini-AP v3 access point.
