Open source firmwares can be found here: https://github.com/dhaillant/midi8d/
The module is made of 2 PCBs:
The MIDI input jack is a Stereo (TRS type A) connector.
Many components are in Surface Mount Technology (SMT), which can be intimidating. Check out the new pre-assembled SMD stuff option. With this option, the only remaining components to solder are classic Through Hole.

I use "La Poste", the French postal service.
Tracking informations on Tracked Shipments are scarce and pretty useless most of the time. For this reason, I recommend the Regular Mail without tracking. Don't waste your money!
