Great product and as easy to install as it could be

For LCD replacement for TRS-80 PC-1 / Sharp PC-1211

These screens are great quality, easy to install and it's very nice to be able to read the screen clearly again.

I replaced the screens in two PC-1211 computers, one with a 1980 date code and one with a 1981 date code. The installation instructions on YouTube were clear but I made a couple of minor deviations. After I'd popped out the old LCD the old adhesive strips were still attached to the metal frame; rather than remove these, I left them in place when installing the new LCD. This kept the LCD in position once I'd lined it up, no need for a paper shim. I had the opposite issue with the metal trim/bezel behind the clear plastic window; everything was stuck to the old polariser and so I had to remove the old tape to separate them. I reassembled the computer without any tape and though it looked stable enough at first the plastic window rattled a bit and I found I could dislodge the internal metal trim by giving the computer a sharp tap on its side so I had to take it all apart again. A small piece of kapton tape then held the inner trim and plastic window in place and stopped the rattles.

Very happy to have a couple of PC-1211 computers back in action, thank you!

The screen for the TRS-80 Pocket Computer is a gem.

The replacement screen for the TRS-80 Pocket Computer is quite an achievement! It's clearer than the original screen was when it was new and of course it's a vast improvement over the decayed screen on my decades-old PC-1. The videos showing the installation were thorough and clear (though I do prefer following a text) and it went fairly smoothly for me. I did the screen-soak with isopropyl overnight but it still took some prying to separate the original screen from its mount. I tried to push the potentiometer arm loose -- it just broke off, but the contrast is perfect. It wasn't clear at first that one has to remove the old screen's polarization filter, so the first time I tried it the screen was very dark, but on reviewing the video I found a remark about removing it and of course it was far clearer after that. (I managed to mount it upside-down once as well, but after I paid more attention to the little bump on one end things went well.) Of course I managed to spill all the keys on my first try as well (and I had to make a substitute Q, but someday I'll find the original under something). The end result is good, though the rightmost character on the screen is not quite right -- alternate vertical lines don't appear -- but after failing to correct it by further tightening the tabs on the screen enclosure I just decided to live with it, as I think I'd done as good a job as possible cleaning the elastomeric connectors and I feared I'd do more harm than good disassembling and reassembling it yet again. In any case, I'm having fun with the revitalized PC-1. Thank you so much for undertaking the whole process of having these things made! (That story in itself was an education.)

My EL-5100S works again

For LCD replacement for Sharp EL-5100/5100S

It was quite a surprise to find this display available.

I was extremely pleased with the overall replacement process. The video was crucial for success. I utilized heat to release the adhesive and isopropyl alcohol to clean all the contacts.

The final result appears somewhat dimmer than I recall, but perhaps that is due years and years of smartphone usage.

Fantastic product

For LCD replacement for TRS-80 PC-1 / Sharp PC-1211

So grateful to the creator of the replacement screen!
Quality of the product is fantastic, and instructions on replacement are very clear.
I decided to try installing it without cleaning neither the new display nor the elastomeric strips, just kept them clean. Everything works fine.
When I tried to adjust the glued potentiometer to improve contrast, it snapped and suddenly the device appeared dead. I replaced the potentiometer with a 220kOhm resistor (my first guess) and it worked great right away. Important note: I'm using THREE silver oxide batteries to keep the voltage close to the original four mercury batteries. The fourth (left-most) battery apartment I've shorted by a flipped battery.

The new display looks and works fantastic, it's better than I imagined. Kudos to the author!
