There is no way a review can do this incredible mod any justice. It is so good it's unbelievable. I'm not a payed reviewer. I'm a real person and this mod is about as real as it gets. I put this bad boy in my Gameboy Light and the amount of sound coming out of this little guy surpasses my Razer gaming phone. I opted for the pre soldered version (which I highly recommend) and all the wires literally just place exactly where they belong. Definitely a quality build that is hand made not a mass produced pos. The seller is also very very nice. He responded to me asap and answered my questions. The mod isn't hard to do but I would suggest that you do know how to do above average soldering skills. Can't prase it enough definitely get this. If your on the page it's already in your mind to get better sound so do yourself a favor and just get it
This amp makes the game boy model DMG go from just barely loud enough in a quiet room to being heard clearly from a room with the door closed while not even being in the room. I used a Railmaster DS28RND 28mm speaker for it. The directions for the installing the amp were easy to follow .The amp can handle 3 watts but 2 watts is more than loud enough.
Based on my experience the install was not too difficult, taking about 2 hours to install in a Gba-001... In my opinion a difficulty of 7/10; The hardest part was lifting the pin off the chip, which was achieved using plenty of flux and an Xacto knife, gently heating with a welder expert 15w fine tip.
After the two hours of work, the benefit was quite apparent;
Super loud and crisp sound that has a definite "wow" factor, sounding even better through headphones. A must for anyone serious about the Gameboy.
I will be purchasing more Gbamp's and installing them in a DMG and a Color..and recommending them to my friends and family.
Thank you Anton for this amazing bit of kit! Keep up the good work!
Installation is a bit tricky, you need to know soldering skills and be patient. Results are pretty impressive: volume is more powerful and clear, even with the old gba speaker. I'm very satisfied! Thank you Anton!
I ordered this for a GameBoy Pocket with an aftermarket backlight.
It shipped fast (with tracking), but shipping from Russia to the U.S. took some time. However, that's to be expected.
The documentation is clear and easy to follow.
I initially had some issues with the power and white-noise. I emailed Anton with my concerns and he quickly responded with help. After a few modifications I am extremely happy with how the GBAMP3 performs. It's night and day how much better the GBP sounds with this mod. It's hard to go back.
I'm extremely satisfied. I just ordered another one for my Game Boy Advance!
This little board is great! Super easy to install and sounds great with the original or replacement speaker. Both are very crisp and incredibly LOUD. I opted to keep the original speaker from my GBC because it has a little more bass, and this board can drive that poor little Mylar speaker until it almost explodes (basically anywhere > 50% volume). I had to trim the case a little for original speaker + board to fit, but it was a very simple and clean mod overall.
Also, during the install, I measured the current draw of the board at got ~4 mA with no sound playing and up to 160 mA with the volume cranked. It stayed at ~35 mA at normal listening levels, so this probably won't be to detrimental to battery life.
GBAmp3 is something more than I expected. Our Game Boy Color is now very, very loud. Before upgrade, I was playing on max volume and even that was to quiet. Now, my son is playing on volume below one third of the scale and it is enough (for me even to loud). Really, great job.
GBAmp3 is nice piece of electronics. It is perfectly designed and made. Ideally fits where it supposed to fit. The installation is very easy - two schemes from the instruction guide give you proper direction how to mount it. Six wires must be soldered in proper points of Game Boy board.
Best regards gc
