What is it?

This is bit-bashed serial port for Minstrel 4th or RC2014 at 57600 or 115200 baud. It allows the Minstrel 4th to load and save via serial and run a serial terminal or screen echo.

Why did you make it?

I wanted a serial card for the Minstrel 4th that did not rely on new old stock out of production parts. I tried several versions, but this is a very simple IO port that can be driven by software to generate 5V RS232 at 57600 baud (with a 3.25MHz clock) or 115200 (with a 6.5MHz clock).

What makes it special?

There is no UART or ACIA, so everything is done in software. There in no interrupt support, and the sender had to support RTS/CTS hardware flow control. The standard FTDI USB serial adapters are perfect for this.

I would still consider this experimental, new features are being added, and updated ROMs will be provided (or optionally a programmed ROM).

This will not currently work with the RC2014 BASIC and CP/M which were designed for the 68B50, I am working on rewriting that to support this card.

Available as a kit or full assembled, and with optional IC sockets if you want those.

Only the software serial card is included, no Minstrel 4th, RC2014 modules or FTDI serial cables are included.
