The MidiOut Me is a handy adapter that allows you, with a microcontroller (or other UART serial data source) transmitting at 31250 baud, to command and control MIDI devices over a standard MIDI (5 Pin DIN) cable.
Just connect Pin + to +5v, Pin - to GND, and Pin M to your UART TX pin. Then head on over to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_MIDI_1.0_Protocol to find out what interesting things you can do with this powerful protocol!
