I decided to build a Z80-MBC2 as a way to dip my toes into retro-computing and programming bare metal. Of course there's a bit of a catch 22 in this situation, I'll need old chips to build this project, but until I have a working board, I can't vet the used chips I buy...
This is a perfect way around this situation. You receive the board, the harder to obtain chips, and the peripherals needed to run this retro computer. The rest of the components are on you to obtain, and the board is yours to build (that's half the fun!)
The chips I got were working beautifully, and after soldering everything together, my system booted up first try (if you can believe that!)
Given the opportunity, I'd go down this path again... the essential kit here is absolutely the way to go if, like me, you've never done this kind of thing before.
