DROP DIY is a small, hands‑on shop making simple, local‑first DIY kits for Home Assistant. We try to keep things practical: clear docs, compatible parts, ESPHome-friendly setup, and no cloud requirements.
Our first kit measures soil moisture with four probes on an ESP8266, sending readings to Home Assistant over MQTT. It’s built for people who like to tinker—solder a little, plug things together, and see data show up in their dashboard. Configuration is easy with ESPHome, and we include example YAML plus MQTT discovery templates. The enclosure is available to 3D‑print yourself or add to the kit; users on MakerWorld have been positive about the design.
What to expect:
Home Assistant + ESPHome integration with example YAML, topics, and discovery templates
The parts you need, without overbuying
A short quickstart, simple calibration guide, and basic troubleshooting
A modest, well‑fitting enclosure that’s earned good feedback on MakerWorld
A custom, tidy cable (not the usual exposed 3‑wire lead) for a cleaner look and better handling
Firmware and files in a public repo
We’re learning as we go and improving with feedback. If something isn’t clear or doesn’t work as expected, we’ll do our best to fix it quickly.
Yours sincerely,
3D Craft and Trade (the makers of DROP DIY)
