About

The NS1 is a minimalist, headless oscilloscope with a single channel, 62.5MS/s sampling rate, 7.5MHz bandwidth, and a 16384 point buffer length. Together with its companion PC software, Voltpeek, NS1 includes the core features we believe are essential for a basic oscilloscope:
- 1V, 2V, 5V, and 10V ranges.
- Auto, Normal, and Single trigger modes
- Rising edge and Falling Edge Trigger
At this point, NS1 is best seen as an oscilloscope development platform. By leveraging the PIO and DMA peripherals of the RP2040 microcontroller, we were able to create a functional oscilloscope using only the RP2040 for digital acquisition. This was a unique opportunity to deliver a capable tool with minimal hardware and software complexity, high value, and fully open source software and firmware. This makes it easy to modify, extend, or integrate into your own workflow.

Getting Started

NS1 does not include a USB cable or probe. NS1 utilizes a micro USB port and most micro USB cables will work. As for the probe, just make sure it is compatible with a standard BNC. Additionally, if you want to use a probe with a 10X division, make sure it is compatible with the NS1's input capacitance. Please see the datasheet for detailed specifications.

Software

Voltpeek software will run on most modern computers with an installation of Python 3.10 or higher. Simply clone the Voltpeek repository and install using pip. Please see our getting started documentation for a more detailed installation procedure. This documentation also contains a list of commands that can be used in Voltpeek, and a tutorial to get started with Voltpeek's command-based user interface.
