What is it?

The Derby Automated Timer (DAT) is a small handheld device which performs roller derby-based timing functions when connected to a power bank and an external speaker (not included).

Included in this item are:

• DAT-1 unit
• AUX Cable
• Remote Control
• Foot pedal

How does it work?

The foot pedal, the button marked "pedal" and the "A" button on the remote control all do the same thing.

DAT-1 has 3 different modes, which are selected by holding down one of the buttons while plugging it into power (the smaller writing on the front):

• Don't hold any buttons down to enter "Training Mode". Press the pedal to "Go to 5" (gt5) and start a jam. It will call off the jam after 2 minutes, or when you press the pedal again. Repeat as required. Ideal for scrimmage scenarios during training that don't need to be structured like a full-blown scrimmage and have long breaks between jams.
• Hold down the OR button to time 5-minute speed tests. DAT-1 will provide minute based countdowns (eg. "4 minutes remaining") as well as a final countdown at the end from 10 seconds ("10, 9, 8..."). Press the pedal to gt5 and blow a start whistle. DAT-1 will perform a call-off at the end of the 5 minutes.
• Hold down the green button for a full scrimmage. DAT-1 will time TTOs, jams (press the pedal if the jam is called off early) as well as the 30 second line up time. To start the period, press the pedal for a rolling whistle and a 30 second countdown. Pressing the pedal during timeouts end them, and pressing the pedal during line-up will immediately gt5.

Limitations

DAT-1 was designed for training scrimmages, and such does not:

• Time periods (press the End Half or "D" on the remote to end a half)
• Keep count of TTOs
• Keep count of ORs

If you're going to rigidly enforce those limits, you'll need a human to act as a gatekeeper.
