What is it?

This is a 4 key mechanical macropad (macro keypad) based on a really low cost IC - CH552G. This can be programmed using Arduino IDE with CH55x Arduino library and my web programming interface. See more on the open source Github page https://github.com/tobychui/4xMacropad

Modes A / B

There are 2 modes that can be switched on the macropad. So you can switch between mode A and B base on your usage. In total there are 8 programmable functions keys on this macropad. By defalt, Blue light means you are currently on mode A and Red lights means you are currently on mode B. This can also be changed in the firmware using Arduino IDE and it is open source on Github.

Arduino IDE Programming Notes

When you are programming this macropad with Arduino IDE, make sure to press and hold the PROG button on the PCB while plugging your macropad into your PC. This will prevent the IC from entering USB HID mode when it is powered on and allow Arduino to program it via UART. If you have difficulties finding the PROG button or the code generation & upload process, please watch the video attached with this product page.

Example Usage

• Basic macropad functions like automating key sequences, link with Auto-hotkey using F13-F24 etc
• Emulate Media Keyboard (e.g. Starting browser, calculator etc)
• Emulate Media Controller (For music playback, volume adjustment; Tested working with Windows + Browser Media Session API. See Github Example)

Why did you make it?

This macropad cost around $3USD each (shipping and assembly cost not included). I design this as a greeting gift in up-coming Maker events so I can exchange gifts from my favorite makers all around Asia.

Note that although the manufacturing price is $3, the international shipping cost for physical objects are quite expensive, the fee mentioned above included the basic shipping of the whole completed keyboard.

What makes it special?

This should be the cheapest mechanical keypad options on the market. The whole project features a 3d print-able base, sample Arduino codes and a web programming interface. Suitable for prosumers with some Arduino programming experience and want an extra macropad lying around to help automate stuffs.

Notes for buyers

• As I am building these with left over materials from my development process, some parts (e.g. keycap , 3D printed base) might have different color or materials than the picture shown above. Please use the "Contact Seller" features if you have questions.
• The transparent base / mount is only for demo purpose. PLA printed, non-tranparent mount will be used in real products. If you really want to have a transparent base mount with back-lit LEDs, please contact me for customization with additional fee.
• The keypad will ship with all the keys pre-soldered to the PCB. If you want to use your own key switches, please let me know in the order comment so I will not solder them for you.
• The optional 0805 LEDs and resistors on the back of the PCB are not included (you will receive the macropad with bare solder pads at those locations). You can use them as GPIO to add other features like a vibrating motor or connect other MCU via Softi2c.

CHANGE LOG

BATCH 3 18-9-2023 The batch 4 are made with matte black PCB and micro USB port.

BATCH 3 1-9-2023 The batch 3 of 4xmacropad is a special limited production run with white PCB, micro USB port and Outemu Brown Switches.

BATCH 2 since 19-6-2023 The batch 2 of the macropad PCB uses matte black PCB with 3D printed base. Color of the 3D printed base is ship out randomly.
