What is it?

DezKVM-Go is a compact KVM over USB device that lets you use your laptop as a keyboard, mouse, and monitor for headless computers, servers and SBCs like the Raspberry Pi.

Instead of using an external monitor and keyboard for setting up your servers, just plug DezKVM-Go into your laptop and the target machine and instantly access

• Live HDMI video feed
• Live audio feed
• Virtual keyboard & mouse (using USB HID)

The open source solution also includes features like

• Paste box (type long commands instantly)

Setup Steps

1. Insert the KVM device into your host computer (e.g. laptop) and remote computer (e.g. Raspberry Pi) using USB type C cables. The orange colored side is remote side and black colored side is host side.
2. Insert the remote computer (e.g. Raspberry Pi) HDMI output into the KVM device using a HDMI cable
3. Visit the DezKVM-Go web UI (self hosted or use the one that I deployed on Github) and in camera and microphone device selection manual, select USB video and USB audio (the capture card output)
4. Click on the screen once and a Web Serial device selection manual should shows up. Select the suitable USB Serial device and you are ready to remote control your Raspberry Pi.

Why did you make it?

As a homelab enthusiast and I am constantly setting up new test servers, I always want to buy one of those off-the-shelf KVM over USB devices so I don't need to plug and unplug keyboard and monitor for setup and maintenance. I tried to look for a budget solution online, but the cheapest options are at least 40 USD and bundled with software that is not that well written.

That is why I decided to build one myself that is small, cheap, easy to build with a list of open source parts and most importantly, it should works anywhere, even without the need to install dedicated software. That is why I built DezKVM-Go, a practical, field-ready KVM tool designed to work on all platforms with web browsers.

What makes it special?

• Ultra Compact: Only 54 x 17 x 85 mm — smaller than most portable SSDs.
• Under $20 Hardware Cost: Built using widely and low cost components including an MS2109 HDMI capture module.
• No Software Installation Required: The entire interface runs in vanilla JavaScript in your browser using Web Serial API.(Chrome or Chromium based browser required)

Buyer Notes

• The CH9329 chip is pre-configured to use 115200 baudrate (default chip baudrate is 9600)
• The DezKVM-Go software is tested on Windows and MacOS as host and compatible with remote computers that is running Windows, MacOS or Linux (tested on Linux PC and Raspberry Pi)
• Cables (USB type C and HDMI cables) are not included
• Different batch of PCB might have different PCB silk mask color (white is only used for the first batch of productions)
