What is it?

It's an adapter board to disable the set pin on Plantpower sensor used in the XIAOMI air purifiers.

Why did you make it?

The sensor used in the Xiaomi Air Purifiers is the: PMS9003M by Plantpower This sensor uses a pin named SET. The function of that pin is to change between two modes:

1: Active

2: Sleep

In Active Mode: The Sensor will send data every measurement (2.3 Seconds when there are no big changes detected, or 200-800ms if large changes are detected)The small fan is turned on all the time.

In Sleep Mode: The Sensor will not measure automatically (only if a measure command is send) and the fan will only spin up if there is a measurement.

The hanging of the Display and the slow responses are caused by the the following things: 1. My Air Purifiers contain a software bug where if you turn off the display (button on the backside of the Purifier) the Plantpower Sensor won’t go back in active mode. 2. Sometimes the sleep mode gets activated without clear reason.

After installation you can test the response of the air purifier by holding a lighter behind the sensor and watch the PPM go up. If the PPM returns to 001 after that it means you have very clean air :)

Warning If you have the PRO version of the Xiaomi Air Purifier it is harder to install!!

Easy and useful mod to make your Xiaomi Air Purifier useful!

Great mod, especially the detail of the connectors, which are perfect match for the originals.

The Pro has a different panel for the sensor the clip is on the bottom edge of the door and just press up and rotate the bottom out. It's not released from inside the filter chamber.

You will find however, that on the Pro, it's harder to install because the sensor mounting screws are blocked by the panel opening, but that's no fault of the mod. You are probably going to end up dropping the screws and have to tilt and shake to get them to fall out the panel opening. I used narrow jaw long nose pliers to replace the screws and used a smaller screwdriver than I would otherwise, to be able to address the screws at an angle. All told, even fussing with the screws and shaking the air cleaner like a maraca, maybe 10 minutes.
