COILS is a port of Plaits by Mutable Instruments, for the compact AE modular system. It was designed by Faux Cyrillic and is being sold in the US with his approval. (April 2025-- tariffs have made more recent parts and PCB orders more expensive and although I'm selling this pretty much at cost, I've had to increase the price a little. Sorry. :/ )

Includes all features of the original module.

Quickswap compatible.

Note: You may need to calibrate this to your rack's voltage levels for it to track properly. Different AE rigs can have different voltages depending on the other modules in the rack and how many other modules there are. If you are unable to get a Coils module to track properly when playing via MIDI or another quantized CV source, check the calibration process in the manual.

What is Coils / Plaits?

A multi-mode oscillator/sound synthesis module with 24 different sound types!

Selected sound modes include: FM, wavetables, chords, speech synthesis, two physical modelling modes taken from Rings, noise, percussive hits, etc. Coils is capable of everything from deep drones to delicate plucks. The majority of modes also feature a distinct AUX output which is usually a variation of the main sound, for even more tonal options!

Coils also features an adjustable internal LPG/envelope, allowing it to function as a complete synth voice with just a trigger and a pitch CV input.

Oh! and there's also an LFO mode.

Features manual control over various parameters of each sound mode; most can also be controlled with CV.

All modules are hand-built in the US, tested and calibrated! Mine are made with blue faceplates to differentiate from the Faux Cyrillic version. Many thanks to him for doing the design work and making it available.
