SBK BarDrive xx28 – MAX7219/MAX7221 LED Driver Backpacks for SBK BarMeter 28

The SBK BarDrive xx28 is a series of compact driver backpack PCBs designed to power the SBK BarMeter 28 LED display bars using the industry-standard MAX7219/MAX7221 chipset. These backpacks are tailored for either common anode or common cathode versions of the popular BL(Z)28-3005 linear LED displays, enabling simple and efficient LED control for props, meters, dashboards, and more.

Whether you're building a precision bargraph, a Ghostbusters-inspired prop, or any interactive display, these driver boards offer streamlined wiring and reliable SPI-based control.

⚙️ Available Variants

• SK28 V1.1 – for common cathode BL(Z)28-3005SK displays
• SK28 V2.0 – same as V1.0 but with daisy-chain output to connect additional backpacks or MAX72xx devices
• SA28 V1.1 – for common anode BL(Z)28-3005SA displays
• SA28 V2.0 – same as V1.0 but with daisy-chain output to connect additional backpacks or MAX72xx devices

🛠️ Assembly Note

These PCBs are sold bare, with unsoldered components, or populated, depending on your selected variant.
Unsoldered or populated PCBs come with a MAX7219 or MAX7221 IC (depending on availability) and a 27kΩ Rset resistor, but do not include pin headers — headers are typically provided with the SBK BarMeter 28.
The MAX7219 or MAX7221 IC may be either an original or a generic version sourced from a trusted distributor.
The design is optimized for hobbyist assembly and clean integration.
