This is a product similar to the traditional presentation clickers, but it is highly specialized towards skipping ads and providing useful media and system controls accessible when the user has closed their eyes for the day, put the phone aside and is not planning on moving another muscle before the day after. The button one normally would skip to the next slide with is programmable to touch tap on any pre-selected on-screen button or element. The user teaches the device where to tap and the product provides a remote controlled and reliable physical button easily accessible able to skip ads, fast forward over ad-reads, skip re-caps and intros or jump ahead in podcasts.

SemiPremium enables skipping ads in YouTube and in podcasts on Android and iOS smartphones and tablets. It is specifically designed for bedtime use and being held in the hand before falling asleep to avoid exposure to light and changing the resting position to interact with the smartphone or tablet. SemiPremium is easy to set up and requires no installation or apps. Just pair it to your device and you are good to go - even your grandmother can use it.

The product enables one press of a physical button to press either the Skip ad button on YouTube, skipping intros and time skipping over ad-reads in podcast apps, either with the display turned on or off. It also provides tactile volume controls, brightness controls and play-pause in addition to skipping back and fort between songs, items or in playlists.

SemiPremium was created for maintaining good sleep hygiene when using the smartphone for bedtime entertainment, eliminating the negative effects on sleep health from forcing light exposure on the user to interact with the touchscreen interface.

The product uses patent pending technology, utilizing an innovative approach for HID (Human Interface Device) tailored to the specific use case of touch-free and vision-free use of handheld devices during bedtime use.

Press one button, once and forget about it. No need to count seconds until the Skip ad button appears, the product takes care of it all. If the YouTube video contains ad-reads embedded in the content, no problem, you can fast forward over those too.

SemiPremium compliments Premium subscriptions by offering a remote controlled tactile physical button to reach the on-screen and often tiny controls for proceeding back to the content, fast forwarding over ad-read segments or not covered by Premium subscriptions, or hitting the time skip buttons on the lock screen for fast forwarding over ad-read segments in your favorite podcast. It also enables consuming content such as Netflix series at a distance, with the same button used for skipping re-caps and intros. SemiPremium offers control of the hard to reach on-screen elements for non-premium users within apps such as Spotify, YouTube, YouTube Music, Apple Podcasts, , Audible, Pocket Casts, Audible, where ad-blocking extensions has no reach. SemiPremium is almost Premium, and in some ways offer more than Premium can offer.

With SemiPremium you don't have to compromise and choose content based on knowing if it contains ads when going to sleep, you can simply skip the repetitive ad-reads or skippable ads when they appear.

SemiPremium sells as a semi-assembled kit where the customer plugs in the battery and assembles the product housing with 4 screws. The patent application was just filed, and to launch quickly I created a production method for low volume production using more or less the same components as in the product that later will be injection molded with a custom board.

The firmware running on the device has now passed a long stability test of 30 days of daily heavy use still going strong on the initial charge. Unfortunately, there has been sporadic short periods of recharging so the final estimate on battery life during heavy use is not ready. It has been tested from morning until night in temperatures ranging from -10 - +90 degrees centigrade and survived multiple real drop tests. The device is held in hand while falling asleep and there has been no sudden and unintentional changes in volume levels during the same period due to the accidental button press protection geometry in the button pad design. As the developer I am always looking for ways to improve it and is on the constant lookout for design flaws and weaknesses, but there is little room for improvement and no critical errors. The product may be updated after it is purchased, and if any critical flaws or errors are identified by either me or a future user, I will send an updated firmware and give instructions on how to update, a process taking less than 5 minutes.
