The Mac ROM-inator replaces the stock 64K or 128K of ROM in a compact Macintosh with a full 1 MB of flash memory. Once installed, the flash ROM’s contents can be updated from within the running Macintosh, allowing for crazy customization experiments. The Mac ROM-inator supports the Macintosh Plus, Mac 512Ke, 512K, and 128K.
My modifications has been to convert to the original PCB files to Kicad, and add the necessary data to the files to allow my PCB supplier to source and solder the SMD 74HCT02 device at the time of manufacturing - thus eliminating the need for anyone to hand-solder the SMD component. If you order the PCB only option, it will include the soldered 74HCT02 part already installed.
The Kit & Assembled version will include the SST39SF040 EEPROMs pre-programmed with the selected ROM version. The 512K/Plus version includes Mac System 6.0.8. The 128K version includes Mac System 3.2.
Kit & Assembled version also includes high-quality IC test clips - this makes installation very easy - no soldering, and easily reversible. However, reinstalling the motherboard to the case can be difficult. Be very careful when sliding back in as clearances can make it difficult. If you would prefer to use the original method of soldering, feel free to do so. This would make for a more permanent/secure installation.
Assembled version will include sockets with the EEPROMs installed. However, this leaves very little clearance when putting the motherboard back in. If you would like the EEPROMs soldered directly to the PCB, please let me know at time of purchase.
