This little castellated board fits right in place of a 28 pin SOP micro controller. It is designed to replace various NEC micro controllers found in some Sony Infrared remote controls, allowing the user to program any code into the remote. This board will replace the following 375 mil SOP micro controllers: uPD17215GT, uPD17216GT, uPD17217GT, uPD17218GT and 400 mil SOP micro controllers: uPD17215CT, uPD17216CT, uPD17217CT, uPD17218CT.
Sony remotes are very well built. Everything from the buttons, keypad, and circuit board is good quality compared to other remote controls. Of course the older remote controls codes do not support modern electronics, and therefore they are obsolete. Instead of the remote ending up in a landfill somewhere, now you can re-purpose the remote with a modern powerful, low power 32K micro controller!
There is an onboard 6 pin ISP layout. You can install a programming header or use a pogo pin ISP adapter. I use the pogo pin adapter so the programming pins do not protrude through the remote shell. If you would like to purchase a Sony remote with the new board installed, please see my other listings.
Every single board is tested with test code before shipping to ensure every pin is working. This board is easy to solder in place. Sample source code (assembly only, no arduino source) is included with the purchase of this board.
