What is it?

An USB interface for Psion series 5 PDA keyboards. Plug in a keyboard and a USB cable, and use it with any modern computer. Additional keyboards can be supported through firmware changes.

This is HW version 1.31.

Why did you make it?

I'm making a upgraded Psion 5mx PDA, and I wanted an easy way to interface the original keyboard to a more modern computer. By identifying itself as a regular USB keyboard, it should work on any modern operating system without using any drivers.

What makes it special?

Arduino Compatible

The adapter uses a ATMEGA32u4 CPU, the same as the Arduino Lenoardo. The board comes pre-loaded with the Leonardo bootloader, and also ISP connection pads if you want to use it as a "regular" AVR development board. The keyboard firmware is also written in the Arduino environment, making it easy to modify.

Open source

The hardware and firmware are 100% open source. See my GitHub for details.

NOTE

PROGRAMMING IS REQUIRED! The board is shipped with my own test software. To enable the keyboard mode, you will need to use the Arduino IDE to flash the keyboard firmware from my Github. This is one method used to adjust the keyboard layout for your region - you can also create a custom keymap for your host device.

Great little board to convert a Psion 5 keyboard

What can I say? It works! Great little board, got here relatively quickly (Belgium->UK) and, after I'd flashed the Arduino sketch, it worked perfectly. :-) Thanks Rasmus!

Does exactly what you need it to!

Comes unflashed, so you need the arduino environment, and the source from the github. tiny footprint, will fit in practically any application. fully open source, so you can change the code completely if you want to (add macros, function keys, etc).

USB keyboard adapter for Psion Series 5 keyboards

Great little board to allow using the greatest mini psion 5 keyboard with modern devices.
It requires some minor coding/config using the Arduino IDE software and the codes on the Sellers github to allow it to work, but easy enough to get it sorted after some reading.

Does exactly what you expect it to

It really does just work, it does exactly what you expect it to. Using Ardinio IDE is straight forward enough and it's great to be able to use my old psion 5's keyboard again :)
