This compact air exchanger, made using 3D printing technology, is an innovative solution for small spaces, off-grid systems, and mobile applications such as campers and yachts. Equipped with two brushless motors measuring 120x120mm, it ensures efficient airflow and optimal performance with low power consumption. Thanks to the use of an RRG regenerative wheel, the device enables heat recovery from the exhaust air, translating into effective heating or cooling of the interior without additional energy load. The built-in nine operating modes allow precise adjustment of the device's functionality to current conditions and user preferences.
The design includes four air connection ports with a diameter of 100mm, facilitating easy integration with various ventilation systems while ensuring a constant supply of fresh air, filtering it, and improving its quality. It is an ideal solution for those seeking a reliable and energy-efficient ventilation system in locations with limited access to standard infrastructure.
The device was created for a friend who needed a solution for his camper, which spent most of the year parked outdoors. As a result, the interior always had to be refreshed at the start of the season due to the musty smell and occasional mold growth. By ensuring proper air exchange along with a functioning air conditioning system, this device helps eliminate those issues and reduces the energy required to maintain a comfortable temperature inside.
As a personal challenge, I decided to build this solution for him. The RRG wheel is a highly efficient component that enables the recovery of thermal energy, making the system both effective and energy-saving
The device is the only solution on the market with such compact dimensions, powered by a 12V DC supply. It features local control via an OLED panel but can be expanded with a Wi-Fi module. I am currently working on equipping it with a Windows control application as well as a control module for RedNode.
Additionally, the device has an output for controlling air diverters—allowing, for example, a small RC servo to shut off the air supply when the temperature falls below a set threshold. The current software operates in Celsius, which may be important for countries using Fahrenheit.
Airflow can be customized to meet specific customer needs. By default, I set it to exchange 22m³ of air per hour at maximum output. The device includes an automatic operating mode utilizing a PID algorithm.
Ask about customizing the device to suit your needs! What can be changed? Replacing the fans with faster ones will give you greater airflow, but at the cost of increased noise. If you’d like to add an output for controlling, for example, an ionizer or PTC heaters, that option is also available!
I am currently creating user documentation, but I assure you it is nearing completion. Entering parameters for the automatic mode is similar to current PLC programming, but this will change. WiFi mode support is available via ESP-link.
