What is it?

The PandaByte BMV080 is an ultra-compact particulate matter (PM) sensor built around Bosch’s BMV080, the smallest PM sensor in the world. It measures airborne particles (PM1, PM2.5, and PM10) in real time using a laser-based optical system, with I2C communication and support for both 2.54 mm headers and Grove connections. Each unit comes with a PandaByte xS3 (ESP32-S3) development board for easy prototyping.

Why did you make it?

It was created to enable precise air-quality monitoring in space- and power-constrained devices. Traditional PM sensors are bulky, power-hungry, and rely on fans. This sensor allows developers, researchers, and makers to integrate accurate, low-power air-quality sensing into compact IoT, wearable, and portable applications with minimal complexity.
