One is the base board where the micro-controller and other components are sitting. The other PCB is the face plate where a beautiful graphic is printed. The face plate likes an add-on to the base to soften the glaring LEDs.
This display is hackable.
This display comes as a fully assembled kit. The ARM Cortex is pre-programmed with the firmware which show different lighting effects in the video.
Please note that this board has no power and accepts 3.3V only. You could provide the power with a battery and other sources.
A boost converter is made with a boost regulator and a battery holder of 2 AA batteries. You can check out with this option so that you do not have to worry about where to find a power source of 3~3.3V.
The LED display could be too glaring for eyes sometimes. The two-piece design make the display soft and gentle.
