What is it?

This little board can be attached to standard FTDI breakout boards to provide galvanic isolation between the microprocessor and the external equipment at any speed up to 1 Mbaud.

The board uses two dual channel high-speed optoisolators to implement the 4 basic serial FTDI lines: TX,RX, DTR and CTS, and can be used for both standard communication and program downloading.

The kit provides a double set of pin headers, male and female, to connect both male or female FTDI adapters. The example pictures show various finishing options.

The board can be assembled in 10 minutes and requires only basic soldering skills because all components are through hole mounted.

Why did you make it?

To protect your computer from power surges, noise and interference when connected to devices that handle powerful devices, such as variable frequency drives, inductive loads and the like.

The idea was to develop a low-cost and simple to use product that can be installed directly in one end of a standard FTDI adapter.
