Just showing digit, they are enough but showing image and colourful interface, tiny monochrome is not enough. This time I made a 96x64 pixel full-color OLED display embedded mini MCU board. This board, ULTRA color has micro-SD card slot and USB interface through FTDI chip. I think, everything is in one!
Basically I prefer OLED, not LCD because we can omit backlight circuit for OLED and also OLED has very wide view angle. However, full color OLED panel requires external high voltage (12 V) source and compared to very handy monochrome chip (SSD1306, where just putting capacitors are enough for voltage converter), Color OLED has more possibility not just showing digit and character also image showing, processed-image display and also, simply colourful is quite fun! This time I designed the circuit all in one board!
Full color OLED + micro SD card + embedded USB interface by FTDI chip. Main MCU is ATmega1284P, which has rich 16kB SRAM and 128kB flash.

For Arduino IDE programmig, adding board support process is needed. Detailed can be found in the relevant project at hackaday. Please refer it before programming.
