What is it?

Arduino-based tinyBASIC computer running on ATMega1284P. It supports RTC (real-time-clock), two-bytes characters (Kanji), two hardware serial supporting Adafruit JPEG camera module and serial thermal printer. Full assembled complete for limited number. Just need to connect with your computer by USB

This item contains FULL ASSEMBLED completed board and CP2102 USB-TTL interface. Coin battery folder (CR1220) for RTC backup is prepared on the back but CR1220 is NOT included.

Why did you make it?

I've wanted to make a stand-alone computer from parts, not just connecting module such as in PC/AT assembling. I got to know, Arduino has a C-written TinyBasicPlus and OLED display implementation was successfully done.

What makes it special?

What is special? Yeah full of special things including

(1) SD card read-write support: if with FlashAir, data can be read through WiFi: save xx.bas and load xx.bas from/to SD card
(2) Two-byte Kanji display by embedded font ROM
(3) RTC with backup battery by NXP PCF2129AT
(4) (Optional with additional Toshiba FlashAir) Twitter message sending support with TinyBASIC command: twit "message"
(5) (Optional with additional Adafruit JPEG camera) Camera image capture and preview, with TinyBASIC command: snap
(6) (Optinal with additional serial thermal printer) list to print: llist

As a part of original tinyBASIC function, it supports aread (A/D reading) and dwrite (digital port writing) With powerful ATMega1284P( SRAM 16kB, Flash:128kB ) lots of extension are implemented. All the source is released on github! You can add or delete function (will lead to larger free memory area) as you wish.

How to program this computer??

There are two ways for this tiny computer programming.

(1) Using Serial line

This computer supports 4800bps serial data input, which is easily generated by USB/TTL (FTDI) interface, or hacked X360 chat pad can works for it. Details can be found at introducing movie here.

(2) Using "autoexec.bas" automatic programming execution function

This tiny computer checks existence of a file named "autoexec.bas" in SD card when switch on. If it exists, tiny computer will execute the program contents automatically. The program file is simple text file format and it can be edited through SD card reader by text editor on your computer. Details can be found at the other movie. Thank you for interest!

Super Tiny Basic Computer

This is an awesome product. You will not believe until you hold this gadget in your hand. It is very easy to use and very well made. My kids love to play with it. I remember the old days when I used to write Basic programs. A must buy for a computer enthusiast like me. Thank you very much.

I am very glad to hear your satisfaction. Actually this computer has a far-extended TinyBasic and lots of "hidden" extended BASIC function is implemented. Most of operation introduced in

is implemented, and even without keyboard nor FTDI interface, text file named "AUTOEXEC.BAS" stored in SD card will be automatically executed just applying power supply. Moreover, it has print-out function and if TTL (19200bps) serial printer is available, we can enjoy paper print-out. Thank you so much for reviewing product!
