Arduino is surely wonderful environment but limited to MCU programming. CPLD (or FPGA) is a software-defined-hardware written by Verilog-HDL or VHDL and these characters are different each other and each of them is not enough multi-purpose. I myself made some project consisting of Arduino and CPLD and those are connected by bunch of wires and got to know, "why not in single board?". Here is an answer to my question.
For programming ATmega based Arduino or Xilinx XC9572XL, no other hardware is required and this board is all in one. Arduino part can be programmed by Arduino IDE (by selecting Arduino Pro 8MHz/3.3V) as same as general Arduino and Xilinx CPLD part can be programmed by Xilinx ISE. How to program and what the circuit are denoted in related hackaday.com site (Here and there).
