The Solder Trainer: Entropy Approximator Kit, Or ST:EAK, is a kit designed to work with a curriculum for learning to solder. Wide spacing, through-hole design, When assembled correctly and powered, the kit will display a die pattern with the LEDs, and you can press a button to "roll" a new number.
How It Works
The die pattern is displayed on a display of 7 LEDs. The “brains” of this circuit are the 555 timer, and the 4017 counter. The timer provides electrical pulses that are received by the counter.
Why this kit?
Practice a skill: We feel strongly that the best thing you can do when learning a new skill like soldering is practice. 31 components, 88 connections, and a separate practice board, gives you ample practice. When you're done the board actually does something, giving you feedback and a sense of accomplishment for a job well done.
Support a cause: For each kit sold we will donate $5 to Makers Local 256. Makers Local 256 is a hackerspace in Huntsville Alabama, a registered 501(c)3, and has been in operation since 2009 solely from donations. This kit wouldn't exist without places like Makers Local 256.
Freedom: This board is being released as Free Hardware and was made with Free Software.
