This thing is GREAT!!!

First, let me say that the product is very, VERY cool! But I also want to praise the support ... I was having an issue, using an older PC to convert my own movies, and the software was just too "new" for it, so I reached out to the creator, who sent me an earlier version of his software -- I was still having issues, but he walked me through every step! It was amazing! In the end, it all works great and makes a great display piece for my collection! I only wish I could find people who could creat a custom box for me! :) But, the search continues! Buy one of these! They are super cool!

A unique and fun experience

The MovieCart is a very unique cartridge for the Atari 2600. There is something comforting about watching a video from your Atari. With the lights down low, the MovieCart's resolution, and a certain amount of suspension of disbelief it is possible to feel transported back in time.

In addition to the board itself, there is a wealth of support. The Github repository holds documentation, how-to videos, patches, and the code itself. The developer "MovieCart Stuff" is also very responsive and supportive if you need to reach out. There is also an open discussion on this topic at AtariAge.

That being said, the cartridge does require some effort on the purchaser's part. All videos will need to be converted to a new format. The how-to videos and documentation make this fairly painless. Also I recommend any purchaser to protect the board either in an old game case or 3D print a new one. The board can be damaged if not properly protected. Also anyone attempting to apply a patch should read through the process very carefully and make sure you have a good patch file. Not all patches can be rolled back.

Overall the MovieCart has been worth the effort. It is not only fun, but I am learning from it as well. And any day you can learn something new is a good day.

Wow! So cool!

I'm hardly an AV enthusiast, but I'm a retro game collector. This thing is amazing!

The labels are glossier than the real thing, but they hold up at a distance. Design-wise they're spot on.

I threw the thing into a cart and cut a hole to change SD cards--i don't have the luxury of making a new one for each movie.

Anytime I have people over to see my collection this is one of the things I'll be showing off. It's so damn cool

Great product for people who want to push an old console

Really enjoyed the product. It might be worth mentioning that there's a nice 3D printable shell at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6646416 that has an opening for the microSD card if you don't want to modify an existing shell. If you're doing another board revision, it would be nice to add some silkscreen to the top saying something like "label side" to make it easier to remember the orientation.

An essential purchase for any Atari 2600 owner

I cannot recommend enough the Movie Cart for the Atari 2600. This is one of the coolest carts to come out for the Atari. Sitting back and watching movies on a piece of technology from 1977 is an absolutely wild experience. Everything about this cart has been a positive experience. Do not hesitate to get one for yourself.

Coolest Thing Ever for the 2600

This cart is absolutely amazing. Easy to use and fun. I'd recommend the Youtube videos to setup, encode and prep the cart. It's hard to believe that you can actually watch a movie on a 2600. Great job!!!

Thanks so much! When packing the units I noticed sometimes the endlabels get tucked into the side of the box, making them harder to find.

Wow! Crazy & fun tech.

I'd watched a couple of videos from well known Atari content creators and it convinced me that I needed to buy one of these.

What I didn't know was how good the overall experience was going to be. I received my MovieCart very quickly (10 days from ordering, and I am in the UK) and well packaged. It came as a PCB with front and end stickers ready to go. I had already set a spare doner Combat cart aside... every Atari fan has multiple Combat carts.

After removing the labels from my doner cart shell fitting the PCB was easy, I just had to cut a small section out for where the SD card goes in. I recommend an SD expander for easier insertion, I got mine from Amazon. After I fitted the new labels I was left with a very professional looking item, well apart from my slightly rough cut. 🤷🏻🤣

The cart comes with an SD card which was preloaded with a public domain movie, a nice sample of what can be achieved. The software used to create your own content is free and I have started to make some short music videos. I'm going to dive into movies soon. Good tutorial videos are provided on YouTube, so get one ordered and jump in!

Overall it's a cool curiosity and a bit of fun tech.

I'd like to see a music cart media player with improved audio quality and just the album art displayed, but that aside, this is an awesome bit of tech, buy it.

Fun, unique and well built accessory for the Atari 2600!

I love this thing! It is amazing that someone has made watching videos on the Atari 2600 possible. The documentation/Youtube videos make encoding your own files fairly straight forward. I have plans to take a couple "so bad it's good" movies and make them "so bad it's better!"
