What is it?

This is an enhancement mod for the Sega Genesis 3. The Genesis 3 is the last version of the console. It is small and has great video output. The Genesis 3 did not output stereo audio through the connector. The Genesis system does have stereo audio on board, but it was not wired out to the connector. Instead, the audio was combined into mono audio. To get stereo audio out the mini-DIN connector, audio must be tapped earlier in the circuit. Three wires need to be soldered. Some components need to be removed so the left and right channel are not combined into mono.

Why did you make it?

There is an open-source project called the Sega Triple Bypass. It cleans up audio and video for all versions of the Sega Genesis. I made this mod using the same audio circuit from the triple bypass project. The layout of the Genesis 3 is small, and I felt a version specific board could be much easier to install. The original 3BP board uses 10 wires and disables composite video. My board uses 3 wires and retains original video functionality. Documentation for the triple bypass mod can be used to locate the audio signals. Skip the instructions that modify the video circuit. This board does not have the video circuit of the triple bypass.

What makes it special?

This board is easier to install. This is a no-cut mod. The plastics or metal shield do not need to be modified. The video circuit is untouched, so it works with both composite cables and HD Retrovision cables.
