This DIY PCB Christmas Tree kit is a electronics project designed by us for the AGH University of Science and Technology. The tree consists of two interlocking PCBs that form a 3D structure decorated with 24 multicolor SMD LEDs. At its core is an ATtiny402 microcontroller that controls the LEDs via three MOSFET-driven channels, allowing smooth fading and multiple lighting modes selectable with a push button.

The kit is powered by a CR2032 coin cell and features an onboard power switch, battery holder, and UPDI programming header, so you can reprogram the LED patterns with Arduino or any UPDI-compatible programmer. All components are SMD (including LEDs, resistors, transistors, and Schottky diode), making it a great way to practice surface-mount soldering skills.

Once assembled, the boards are soldered together into a free-standing 3D tree that glows in vibrant holiday colors. With programmable effects, compact design, and hands-on assembly, this kit is perfect for electronics students, hobbyists, or as a unique DIY holiday gift.

If you order the soldering kit, it includes four LED colors: red, orange, yellow, and yellow-green. You’ll get a selection of each so you can choose your own color layout while assembling the tree. The pre-assembled version comes with LEDs soldered in at random, giving each tree a unique multicolored appearance. The assembled versions are hand soldered.
