Imagine having your own monitoring system capable of recording environment status, visualizing data on your computer or turning things on and off wherever you are on the planet, sounds cool right?
Kortex A1 is an IoT environmental monitoring device and development board at the same time. It's intended for those interested in developing fast/easy solutions for environmental monitoring and wireless control, without any efforts or difficulties.
It's based on an 8-bit Atmega328P-AU AVR with Arduino bootloader, which makes it compatible with the popular Arduino IDE and all its libraries, so programming it is as simple as using an Arduino UNO. The USB communication is enabled by a Silabs CP2104 high-speed USB to UART converter that has better performance when it comes to serial communication. Moreover, it includes a Texas Instruments TXB0104 logic level converter that allows the microcontroller to communicate with the integrated environmental sensors (SI7021 and MPL3115) that read Temperature/Humidity/Pressure/Altitude.
Finally and most important, is the presence of the WiFi ESP8266-07 module that enables WiFi wireless communication, and thus, allows you to link the board with many IoT platforms (via MQTT) such as Blynk, Thingsboard.io, Thinger.io, Cayenne, etc... (ALL CODE INCLUDED!)
This product was designed to provide the best experience when creating wireless monitoring and control devices, which means that you will only have to modify some WiFi parameters (like SSID, password, API Key, etc...) and upload the provided code directly to the board, and that's all! This great feature allows you to keep track of your sensor readings wherever you are in the world as long as you have a good WiFi connectivity on both Kortex A1 (emitter) and your smartphone or computer (receiver - webapp). When you turn on the board, it will automatically connect to the specified SSID & Password that you previously put in the code. Once it has connected to an access point, it will ping the MQTT server in order to check connectivity (remember to get a valid API key from the MQTT server), and immediately it will start sending packets containing sensor data.

Currently, Blynk is the only IoT platform compatible with Kortex A1 that allows you to control your devices wirelessly. If you install Blynk, you will be able to create your dashboard (read Blynk documentation) by adding buttons, sliders, toggles, and many more widgets. For linking Kortex A1 with your smartphone, you'll need an API key or Auth Token. Every new project you create will have its own Auth Token. You’ll get Auth Token automatically on your email after project creation. This is amazing because you can have full control of things wherever the location it is. -- There's a video in the final of the description showing how wireless control works --.
Actually, this board was made for my baccalaureate high school project, since I'm an 18-year-old electronics & programming enthusiast who loves creating new "things" that improves and facilitates science research. It took me almost a year to design the board, make the prototypes, test, and build the final version and I think this was a great experience for me since this is my first high "complexity" electronics project I ever made.
Unlike other boards, Kortex A1 was created in order to give users the ability to learn all electronics basics in just one board without having lots of cables and sensors laying in a messy breadboard. It's a "All in one" product made for noobs and professionals that includes all the necessary components to build anything!
