What you get… ONE (1) M2764A EPROM burned with the mps802_switchable_gfx romset.

This is a replacement rom for the commodore 1526/802 printer to allow some graphics support. There is some simple SOLDRING involved! PLEASE know what you are getting into!!

I acquired a Commodore 1526 printer and was disappointed there was no graphic support. After a little research online, I came across this thread on Lemon64 https://www.lemon64.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=36718 . User “marcelv” was able to swap an eprom with a new firmware and it unlock some graphics. I followed his procedure, and it worked for me! I am now able to print from “The Print Shoppe”

Using an eprom programmer I dumped the eprom with the Grafik ROM II for the MPS 802 & 1526.

Have a manual on paper also (in german), but will write the important details here.

Open the printer, 4 screws on the bottom, remove print ribbon and knob. Lift upper part of case. Remove cover of the pcb (2 screws). Replace the ROM which is next to the CPU (CPU=6504). Eprom is a 2764 type, just remove the old one (position U8 on the board) and replace it with the 2764. If the old one is a ROM type, change the jumpers on the board. Jumpers have to be made on J3 and J4, J1 and J2 have to be open!

PLEASE NOTE: You need to desolder two jumpers and move them!!! Do NOT purchase if you are not comfortable with that! That being said… It is an easy solder job, and the jumpers are inert. You can’t hurt them; they are just wire. You are not soldering the chip or socket. Be aware though, these devices are 40+ years old and extreme care is needed when handling.

Please see photos… The 4023/MPS-802 is the new graphics set. The 1526/MPS-802 is the old graphics set.
