What is it?

Hoops:bit transforms your micro:bit into a mini arcade basketball game. It comes with a presoldered raspberry pi pico and IR sensor that provides proximity information associated with the mini basketball as it passes through the basketball hoop.

Why did you make it?

Hoops:bit was made to make programming fun for those learning how to code on the micro:bit while encouraging physical activity. Since it comes with a presoldered raspberry pi pico, it is possible to explore programming with the pico as well.

What makes it special?

Hoops:bit combines IR proximity sensing with playing basketball versus proximity sensing with robots. HOOPS:bit provides a different way to teach programming concepts associated with basketball detection through a hoop. This kit encourages physical activity while kids play and program how a mini arcade basketball game tracks scores while leveraging an IR proximity sensor to detect the basketball passing through the hoop. Example code of how to program your micro:bit to interface with Hoops:bit adapter is provided online.
