What is it?

An upgraded version of my universal tester — now more durable, precise, and convenient. Improvements include:

• Added ENIG coating for longer lifespan and to prevent contact oxidation over time.

• Revised silkscreen layout for easier and more intuitive use.

• Slightly adjusted pin order for the 30-pin Samsung connector.

• Added a hole for attaching a crocodile clip or oscilloscope probe — useful for certain diagnostic tasks.

• Other minor refinements.

This tester is designed for manual* testing of various cables. It also allows you to quickly check almost any connector in your device, if you think the connector might be faulty. For example, you can trace faulty HDMI lines that often go directly to the CPU — speeding up diagnostics without even disassembling the device. You can also test a USB connector to detect shorted or damaged data lines, which may indirectly indicate a hub fault. Its use doesn’t stop there — you can also check different cables for breaks, internal shorts, or incorrect pinouts, which are sometimes found in low-quality cables.

Why did you make it?

Initially, I designed this board to help myself, since I’m an engineer specializing in electronics repair. Over time, I realized that this tool could be useful for many others as well, so I decided to refine and improve it. This is already the third revision, and I hope it will be as helpful to you as it has been to me.

manual* — I’m currently developing another PCB for this tester that will allow automatic testing, so you won’t need a multimeter in the future. However, this part is still being developed and tested, so please be patient.

What makes it special?

I designed this device to be a multi-tool for solving multiple diagnostic tasks. Of course, it doesn’t include every possible connector used in electronics repair, but I aimed to make it as universal as possible.

The board includes 11 different connectors (some duplicated intentionally for cable testing), allowing you to diagnose more than 15 different interfaces, including:

• USB Type-A 3.2 (supports USB 2.0)

• USB Type-A Plug (supports USB 2.0)

• USB Type-B 3.2 (supports USB 2.0)

• USB Type-C 3.2 (includes all 24 pins: PD, USB 2.0, Thunderbolt, etc.)

• USB mini-B 2.0 (miniUSB)

• USB micro-B 3.2 (microUSB, supports USB 2.0)

• HDMI 2.0

• DisplayPort 2.1

• Samsung 30-pin

• Apple 30-pin

• Apple 8-pin

I wanted this device to be high-quality and long-lasting, so most connectors, according to the manufacturer’s documentation, can withstand up to 10,000 mating cycles, and some — such as USB Type-A 3.2 — are rated for up to 20,000 high-life cycles.

At this stage, all PCBs are hand-assembled. Please note that I cannot officially claim RoHS compliance at the moment. However, I can confirm that I use only high-quality lead-free SAC305 solder, which meets the RoHS directive requirements.

To keep shipping costs low, I’ll use the most economical delivery method available — usually LuxPost or GLS. Please don’t worry if the tracking number doesn’t immediately appear in the UPS system; this is normal for these carriers.

Please remember that all import taxes and other entry‐duties are the responsibility of the buyer! Unfortunately I’ve had cases where the buyer refused to pay the customs charges. Please keep in mind: according to the rules of the Tindie platform, all taxes fall on the buyer!
