Why we make the 6in1 USB Cable Functionality Tester

We've all got a ton of cables everywhere—USB-C, Lightning, micro-USB, and so on. Maybe it's just me, but I always struggle to figure out which cable is which and what they do besides charging. So many times, I'm fumbling around trying multiple cables just to find the right one, often with a few choice words muttered along the way. That's why we came up with something to tackle this mess and, hopefully, make things a little less chaotic.

The tester has two funcationality:

• Continuity Check: Ensures all internal wires inside the USB cable (power, ground, and data lines) are intact and have no breaks. In short, is the cable works?

• Data Transfer Test: Checks if the cable supports data transfer between devices (such as a phone and computer or external storage). In short, can it be use to data transfer?

The tester supports the following USB connector types:

• USB-C
• Lightning
• USB-A
• Micro-USB
• USB-B
• Mini-USB

In terms of Lightning cable:

• The tester only supports USB-C to Lightning cables.

The tester can be powered in one of two ways:

• By connecting a USB-C cable to a 5V USB port.
• By using one 18650 battery.

How to use it?

1. Install the 18650 battery into the tester, or connect the tester using a USB-C cable plugged into a live USB port or charger.

2. Plug both ends of the testing USB cable into the corresponding ports. The tester will display information via the onboard LED indicators.

3. The tester is designed to test one cable at a time. If multiple cables are plugged in, it may display inaccurate results.

Understanding the LED Indicators

For USB Cables:

• If the VCC and GND LEDs are illuminated, while the D+ and D- LEDs are off, the cable supports charging only.
• If all 4 LEDs (VCC/GND/D+/D-) are illuminated, the cable supports both charging and data transfer.

For Lightning Cables:

• A generic Lightning cable has 8 internal connections. However, as one is utilized by the Emkae chipset, only 7 LED indicators will light up instead of 8.

Battery reverse connection protection.

The tester includes reverse battery connection protection, which prevents damage to the device if the battery is installed incorrectly. If the green LED lights up when the 18650 battery is inserted, it indicates that the battery is in the wrong orientation and should be reversed.
