I am a software engineer by trade, and I have noticed a distinct need. I have a lot of private repos, and github gets to be very expensive.

Solution:
Locally hosted git server. Host all the projects you need simply by setting up a raspberry pi as a GitLab server. Always running, you can keep as many repos as you like and administer them easily using the built in web gui. Access the server remotely by setting up your router to port forward to the Pi and instantly you have a fix to this dilemma.

The raspberry pi you get will be preconfigured to act as a gitlab server out of the box. Just plug in the power and hook up the ethernet and you are good to go!
