This is an eeprom programmer made for the AT28C16 chips. These chips are used widely in hobby projects and because they are Intel/IBM compatible, they will work as drop-in replacements for old EPROM chips in things like the KIM-1 or Synertek SYM-1.
I made this because it is very fiddly to program EEPROM's using breadboard. I wanted the ease of using the Arduino IDE, the compatibility with Ben Eater's eeprom programming software (great video, please watch: Ben Eater's Arduino EEPROM Programmer
It's much easier to slap in your EEPROM, send over a program, and then take it out again using a ZIF socket!
This programmer, while completely compatible with Ben Eater's design, can be used to send full .bin files to your ROM. Down the line (in the coming week/s) I'll provide a github link to a .bin uploader and special firmware. For the time being, you can use Ben Eater's firmware or make your own to send .bin over serial.
