ESP32-C6 Zigbee/WiFi to RS485 Interface Board

Overview

This compact board uses the ESP32-C6 to bridge Zigbee or WiFi networks with RS485-enabled devices. It’s a versatile solution for projects requiring reliable serial communication over modern wireless protocols.

Why I Built It

I needed a clean and efficient way to connect my Nibe heat pump (F1255-6 R PC) to Home Assistant. Existing options weren’t quite what I was looking for, so I designed this board to simplify experimentation with the ESP32-C6 and explore Zigbee-to-RS485 communication.

What Sets It Apart

• One of the few boards based on the ESP32-C6
• Supports Zigbee (not yet implemented for the Nibe setup) and WiFi
• Includes a Github repos and pre-designed 3D-printable housing for easy project completion (see below)
• Very versatile: Interfaces with many RS485- and Modbus RTU-enabled devices in your house.
• Great for DIY automation and prototyping.

Connectors

The board is equipped with two connectors: - USB-C - 4-pin spring terminal for easy wire connection and disconnection

Both connectors can be used simultaneously. The spring terminal is labeled clearly on the board’s silkscreen:
