What is it?

Meet the USB-Chyna—a tiny, clever board that makes charging any USB-C device a breeze, even those quirky, budget gadgets that don’t play by the rules. By connecting the CC1 and CC2 lines to ground with two 5.1k resistors, it tells your USB-C power supply to deliver a steady 5V on the VBUS line. Simple, yet genius!

Why did you make it?

I got tired of cheap, Chinese-made gadgets—like my USB-C wine bottle opener and milk frother—refusing to charge with my kitchen USB-C charger. These devices often skip the proper USB-C specs, relying instead on old-school USB-A to C cable that always pump out 5V. But who wants to juggle adapters? I designed this board to bridge the gap, letting me charge these oddballs alongside my iPhone 15 with one sleek USB-C setup. Some devices are so cheap, they only have VBUS & GND pins inside the USB-C connector, so you can't even add those 2 resistors to the CC1/CC2 pins because they aren't there!

Universal Charging: Works with any USB-C power supply to charge non-compliant devices—perfect for those bargain-bin finds.

• Sleek & Tough: No bulky heat-shrink here (v1.1) as v1.2 sports a clear conformal coating, applied at the factory, to shield it from dust and moisture. (feel free to use 3/4" heat shrink if you want to; not included)
• Power Indicator: It has a red LED that glows when power’s available to your device (don’t want it? Snip it off or cover it with opaque heat shrink)
• Flexible: You can place this device anywhere inline; directly at the USB-C power source, or at the end of the charging cable.
• DIY Friendly: I’ve included Gerber files and a BOM below—order parts from LCSC, get PCBs from JLCPCB, and build your own!

It’s a no-fuss solution for anyone who loves their gadgets but hates compatibility headaches. (Note: Skip this board for devices that don’t need it—it limits output to 5V, though it won’t harm anything.)
