This is a 8 digit, 16 segment LED display with I2C connectivity
I wanted the "old" look of 16 segment display, That's when I've found the MAX6955 and decided to see how small I can squeeze this project.
The PCB is only the size of the LED modules, connectivity is very simple i2c protocol with many capabilities, such as built in Blink and Intensity control and even 5 GPIOs.
This project is a DIY type of project, unfortunately I don't have the time to solder this kit for you.
While most of the PCB isn't very challenging to solder, the MAX6955 has a very tight pitch, which is challenging to solder.
If you're not comfortable with 0.8mm pitch soldering, DO NOT ORDER THIS KIT, every pin matters and it can get frustrating when 136 LEDs are depending on it.
The source code for the demo in the video is available on a github repository and should be easily ported to any MCU that supports i2c.
The project was built using PlatformIO, which became my favorite IDE for embedded since I've first tried it.
