What is it?

This robot follows the infrared signal from the TV remote control. The robot has two infrared sensors at the front, one on the left side and one on the right side. The sensor on the left activates the right motor, and the sensor on the right activates the left motor. The geared motors are driven by L9110 Bridge Motor Driver ICs (one IC for each geared motor). The infrared receiver is connected to the diode capacitor circuit to increase the time the motor remains ON after receiving the infrared signal. I made this project with wire wrap wire and wire wrap sockets. This robot works well in open spaces or big rooms. It will not work well in a small room because of reflections from the walls; the robot will think that you are on the left side when you could be on the right side.

Why did you make it?

A few years ago, I created a similar project using a transistor motor driver; however, this time, I utilized ICs. More about that project is explained in this link: https://basic-mechanics.blogspot.com

This is a good prototype that can be turned into a popular toy product.

What makes it special?

At times, the robot is unsure where the infrared signal is coming from due to reflections from walls. It is a fun game to make it work and remove all obstructions that can cause reflections of the infrared signal.
