The “2M Arduino 818-12v” model is designed as an APRS mobile tracking device when used with the “Trackuino 818 Plus” software. The original open-source Trackuino software was modified and so-called the “Trackuino 818 Plus” software. The “2M Arduino 818” board uses the Arduino form factor and is configured with the Arduino Uno board for 7 to 12-volt applications. The major components of the board are the SA818 transceiver and the NEO-6M GPS module.
The board includes a: - GPS NEO-6M GPS module - SA818 VHF Transceiver module for ½ w or 1 w applications - 7-element low pass filter for 2 meters - SMA Female 50-ohm connector - Battery voltage sensor - Regulator temperature sensor
The 2M Arduino 818-12v is used with the Arduino Uno board. This board is suited for a vehicle, boat, and plane tracking applications where a 12-volt battery is available or a portable 7.4-volt lithium battery. The input voltage source can range from 7-to-12-volt. The voltage source to the UNO board is thru the DC jack. An onboard 2M Arduino 818-12v voltage regulator is used to power the 818 transceiver and other components via the Vin Pin. Good ventilation for the regulator is recommended. As well, the 2M Arduino 818-12v board provides level translation for board components.
The “2M Arduino 818” board was designed around the flexibility of the SA181 transceiver module. The “Trackuino 818 Plus” software interfaces with the SA818 transceiver and can be programmed to different frequencies and transmission modes. The ability to change frequencies will accommodate different APRS areas and jurisdictions.
The prime packet frame reported is the APRS position frame which reports position, speed, direction, and altitude. An APRS telemetry reports battery voltage, and regulator temperature, and uses the bit sense to report transmitter high/low power status, and power management status.
The open-source Arduino form factor makes it possible to use other compatible boards.
