This listing is for a pre-assembled, pre-configured private cluster of 3 devices (2 comms, 1 link/node) I create for you. You don't have to do any setup, they arrive ready to run. They don't use an app on your phone, these are complete self-contained messaging/location devices.

Your fully assembled ready to run kit includes 2 heavily customized T-Decks (communicators) and 1 Altware Link/node. All devices are running Blackout Comms, already set up and fully licensed.

What is Blackout Comms?

Blackout Comms is a system for texting, sharing location, and even remote controlling circuits, using LoRa and automatic/protocol-enforced asymmetric encryption and digital signatures. You use it pretty much like a texting app, and you're automatically getting the smart meshing, encryption, and everything.

Messages have delivery confirmation (signed). So, if you see a check mark, you know for a fact the message was received and validated by the recipient device.

What is a Cluster

A cluster is a set of devices that privately communicate, trust one another, and use encryption, digital signatures, and a private (unpredictable) frequency hopping pattern. Messages are asymmetrically encrypted, signed, and split across multiple frequencies for ultimate security.

Clusters have a decentralized / encrypted distributed mesh cache, which each device assists with, trickling packets, location, connectivity, and other data to all on-cluster devices. Messages are delivered using pre-planned routes, but each device along the way can alter the path, since knowledge tends to be fresher as you get closer to a recipient.

Why I made Blackout Comms

I began building this system (formerly called ChatterBox) at the end of 2023, mainly because I wanted a backup way to securely communicate (encrypted) and share location with nearby family friends, in the event of a grid outage.

I also further extended the system to support proximity/motion (doppler-based) sensors and relays, still with the security of encryption, digital signatures, and frequency hopping, using no grid.

Blackout Comms is original firmware, created by myself, and runs on more hardware than you see in this listing. If you have a cluster, you can add Lilygo Pagers, T-Deck+, and many other T-Deck variants. I'll be releasing a full touchscreen device soon, which will also be compatible.
