This product is a breakout board for RJ45 connectors. The breakout allows you to use the ethernet wires you already have in your projects.
The idea is simple: The RJ45 is broken out to screw terminals. One side connects to your arduino/pic/breadboard, the other to whatever your are sensing or controlling. Since Cat5/6 cables are already twisted pairs of 26-22 gauge wire, they are ideal for low current interconnections.
The board also has a footprint for a .100 header, allowing it to easily be connected to a breadboard. This breakout also includes mounting holes which are tied to the ground plane. The RJ45 pushed forward 1/8” (3.175mm) from the board edge. This allows for easy panel mounting - a right angle bracket is all that is needed.
You get a kit of parts including the following:
As with all Rengineer products, this is an open hardware device - files are available on github.
