The older versions are fully supported by the official Cluster HAT software images but v1.x do not support controlling hub power or turning all LED off, v1.x will also power off all Pi Zero if the controller is rebooted.
The Cluster HAT (Hardware Attached on Top) interfaces a (Controller) Raspberry Pi A+/B+/2/3/3+ with (up to) 4 Raspberry Pi Zeros (1.1/1.2 or W) configured to use USB Gadget mode is an ideal tool for teaching or testing small scale clusters.
